Deuteronomy 33

The Blessing by Moses

33 Now this is the blessing with which Moses ^(A)the man of God blessed the sons of Israel before his death. ²He said,

“^(B)The Lord came from Sinai,
^(C)And ^[a]dawned on them from Seir;
^(D)He shone from Mount Paran,
And He came from ^(E)the midst of myriads of ^[b]holy ones;
^(F)At His right hand there was ^[c]flashing lightning for them.
³^(G)Indeed, He loves ^[d]the people;
^(H)All ^[e]Your holy ones are in Your hand,
^(I)And they ^[f]followed in Your steps;
Everyone takes of Your words.
⁴^(J)Moses issued to us the Law,
^(K)A possession for the assembly of Jacob.
⁵^(L)And He was king in ^[g]Jeshurun,
When the heads of the people gathered,
The tribes of Israel together.

⁶“^(M)May Reuben live and not die,
Nor may his people be few.”

⁷^(N)And this was regarding Judah; so he said:

“Hear, Lord, the voice of Judah,
And bring him to his people.
With his hands he contended for ^[h]them,
And may You be a help against his adversaries.”

⁸Of Levi he said,

“Let Your ^(O)Thummim and Your Urim belong to Your ^(P)godly man,
^(Q)Whom You tested at Massah,
With ^[i]whom You contended at the waters of Meribah;
⁹^(R)Who said of his father and his mother,
‘I did not consider them’;
And he did not acknowledge his brothers,
Nor did he regard his own sons,
For ^(S)they kept Your word,
And complied with Your covenant.
¹⁰^(T)They will teach Your ordinances to Jacob,
And Your Law to Israel.
^(U)They shall put ^[j]incense before You,
And ^(V)whole burnt offerings on Your altar.
¹¹Lord, bless his strength,
And accept the work of his hands;
Smash the ^[k]hips of those who rise up against him,
And those who hate him, so that they do not rise again.”

¹²Of Benjamin he said,

“^(W)May the beloved of the Lord live in security beside Him
^(X)Who shields him all the day long,
^(Y)And he lives between His shoulders.”

¹³Of Joseph he said,

“^(Z)Blessed of the Lord be his land,
With the choice things of heaven, with the dew,
And from the deep waters lying beneath,
¹⁴And with the choice yield of the sun,
And the choice produce of the months;
¹⁵And with the ^[l]best things of ^(AA)the ancient mountains,
With the choice things of the everlasting hills,
¹⁶And with the choice things of the earth and its fullness,
And the favor ^(AB)of Him who dwelt in the bush.
Let it come to the head of Joseph,
And to the top of the head of the one who was prince among his brothers.
¹⁷As the firstborn of his ox, majesty is his,
And his horns are the horns of ^(AC)the wild ox;
With them he will ^(AD)gore the peoples
All ^[m]at once, to the ends of the earth.
And those are the ten thousands of Ephraim,
And those are the thousands of Manasseh.”

¹⁸^(AE)Of Zebulun he said,

“Rejoice, Zebulun, in your going out,
And, Issachar, in your tents.
¹⁹^(AF)They will call peoples to the mountain;
There they will offer ^(AG)righteous sacrifices;
For they will ^[n]draw out ^(AH)the abundance of the seas,
And the hidden treasures of the sand.”

²⁰^(AI)Of Gad he said,

“Blessed is the one who enlarges Gad;
He lies down ^(AJ)as a ^[o]lion,
And tears the arm, also the crown of the head.
²¹^(AK)Then he ^[p]selected the choicest part for himself,
^(AL)For there the ruler’s portion was ^[q]reserved;
^(AM)And he came with the leaders of the people;
^(AN)He executed the justice of the Lord,
And His ordinances with Israel.”

²²^(AO)Of Dan he said,

“Dan is ^(AP)a lion’s cub;
He leaps out from Bashan.”

²³Of Naphtali he said,

“^(AQ)Naphtali, satisfied with favor,
And full of the blessing of the Lord,
Take possession of the sea and the south.”

²⁴^(AR)Of Asher he said,

“More blessed than sons is Asher;
May he be favored by his brothers,
^(AS)And may he dip his foot in olive oil.
²⁵^(AT)Your ^[r]bars will be iron and bronze,
^(AU)And as your days, so will your strength be.

²⁶“^(AV)There is no one like the God of ^[s]Jeshurun,
^(AW)Who rides the heavens ^[t]to your help,
And the clouds in His majesty.
²⁷^(AX)The eternal God is a ^[u]hiding place,
^(AY)And underneath are the everlasting arms;
^(AZ)And He drove out the enemy from you,
^(BA)And said, ‘Destroy!’
²⁸^(BB)So Israel lives in security,
^(BC)The fountain of Jacob secluded,
^(BD)In a land of grain and new wine;
^(BE)His heavens also drip down dew.
²⁹^(BF)Blessed are you, Israel;
^(BG)Who is like you, a people saved by the Lord,
^(BH)The shield of your help,
^(BI)And He who is the sword of your majesty!
^(BJ)So your enemies will cringe before you,
^(BK)And you will trample on their high places.”

Acts 20:1-16

Paul in Macedonia and Greece

20 After the uproar had ceased, Paul sent for ^(A)the disciples, and when he had ^[a]encouraged them and taken his leave of them, he left ^(B)to go to ^(C)Macedonia. ²When he had gone through those regions and had given them much ^[b]encouragement, he came to Greece. ³And there he spent three months, and when ^(D)a plot was formed against him by the Jews as he was about to set sail for ^(E)Syria, he decided to return through ^(F)Macedonia. ⁴And ^[c]he was accompanied by Sopater of ^(G)Berea, the son of Pyrrhus, and by ^(H)Aristarchus and Secundus of the ^(I)Thessalonians, and ^(J)Gaius of ^(K)Derbe, and ^(L)Timothy, and ^(M)Tychicus and ^(N)Trophimus of ^[d]^(O)Asia. ⁵Now these had gone on ahead and were waiting for ^(P)us at ^(Q)Troas. ⁶^(R)We sailed from ^(S)Philippi after ^[e]^(T)the days of Unleavened Bread, and reached them at ^(U)Troas within five days; and we stayed there for seven days.

⁷On ^(V)the first day of the week, when ^(W)we were gathered together to ^(X)break bread, Paul began talking to them, intending to leave the next day, and he prolonged his ^[f]message until midnight. ⁸There were many ^(Y)lamps in the ^(Z)upstairs room where we were gathered together. ⁹And there was a young man named ^[g]Eutychus sitting ^[h]on the window sill, sinking into a deep sleep; and as Paul kept on talking, Eutychus was overcome by sleep and fell down from the third floor, and was picked up dead. ¹⁰But Paul went down and ^(AA)fell upon him, and after embracing him, he ^(AB)said, “^[i]Do not be troubled, for ^[j]he is still alive.” ¹¹When Paul had gone back up and had ^(AC)broken the bread and ^[k]eaten, he talked with them a long while until daybreak, and then left. ¹²They took away the boy alive, and were ^[l]greatly comforted.

Troas to Miletus

¹³But ^(AD)we went ahead to the ship and set sail for Assos, intending from there to take Paul on board; for that was what he had arranged, intending himself to go ^[m]by land. ¹⁴And when he met us at Assos, we took him on board and came to Mitylene. ¹⁵Sailing from there, we arrived the following day opposite Chios; and the next day we crossed over to Samos, and on the following day we came to ^(AE)Miletus. ¹⁶For Paul had decided to sail past ^(AF)Ephesus so that he would not have to lose time in ^[n]^(AG)Asia; for he was hurrying, if it might be possible for him ^(AH)to be in Jerusalem ^(AI)the day of Pentecost.

Deuteronomy 32:48-52

⁴⁸Now ^(A)the Lord spoke to Moses that very same day, saying, ⁴⁹“^(B)Go up to this mountain of the Abarim, Mount Nebo, which is in the land of Moab ^[a]opposite Jericho, and look at the land of Canaan, which I am giving to the sons of Israel as a possession. ⁵⁰Then you are to die on the mountain where you ascend, and be ^(C)gathered to your people, as Aaron your brother died on Mount Hor and was gathered to his people, ⁵¹^(D)because you broke faith with Me in the midst of the sons of Israel at the waters of Meribah-kadesh, in the ^(E)wilderness of Zin, because you did not treat Me as holy in the midst of the sons of Israel. ⁵²^(F)For you will see the land at a distance but ^(G)you will not go there, into the land which I am giving the sons of Israel.”

The Death of Moses

34 ^(A)Now Moses went up from the plains of Moab to Mount Nebo, to the top of Pisgah, which is opposite Jericho. And the Lord ^(B)showed him all the land, Gilead as far as Dan, ²and all Naphtali and the land of Ephraim and Manasseh, and all the land of Judah as far as the ^[a]^(C)western sea, ³and the ^[b]Negev and the territory in the Valley of Jericho, ^(D)the city of palm trees, as far as Zoar. ⁴Then the Lord said to him, “This is the land which ^(E)I swore to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, saying, ‘I will give it to your ^[c]descendants’; I have let you see it with your eyes, but you will not go over there.” ⁵So Moses ^(F)the servant of the Lord ^(G)died there in the land of Moab, in accordance with the ^[d]word of the Lord. ⁶And He buried him in the valley in the land of Moab, ^(H)opposite Beth-peor; but ^(I)no one knows his burial place to this day. ⁷Although Moses was ^(J)120 years old when he died, ^(K)his eyesight was not dim, nor had his vigor left him. ⁸So the sons of Israel wept for Moses in the plains of Moab for thirty days; then the days of weeping and mourning for Moses came to an end.

⁹Now Joshua the son of Nun was ^(L)filled with the spirit of wisdom, because Moses had laid his hands on him; and the sons of Israel listened to him and did as the Lord had commanded Moses. ¹⁰Since that time ^(M)no prophet has risen in Israel like Moses, whom ^(N)the Lord knew face to face, ¹¹for all the signs and wonders which the Lord sent him to perform in the land of Egypt against Pharaoh, all his servants, and all his land— ¹²and for all the mighty ^[e]power and all the great terror which Moses performed in the sight of all Israel.

“You yourselves know, ^(C)from the first day that I set foot in ^[a]Asia, how I was with you the whole time, ¹⁹serving the Lord with all humility and with tears and trials which came upon me ^[b]through ^(D)the plots of the Jews; ²⁰how I ^(E)did not shrink from declaring to you anything that was beneficial, and teaching you publicly and ^[c]from house to house, ²¹solemnly ^(F)testifying to both Jews and Greeks of ^(G)repentance toward God and ^(H)faith in our Lord Jesus Christ. ²²And now, behold, bound by the ^[d]Spirit, ^(I)I am on my way to Jerusalem, not knowing what will happen to me there, ²³except that ^(J)the Holy Spirit solemnly ^(K)testifies to me in every city, saying that ^(L)chains and afflictions await me. ²⁴But ^(M)I do not consider my life of any account as dear to myself, so that I may ^(N)finish my course and ^(O)the ministry which I received from the Lord Jesus, to ^(P)testify solemnly of the gospel of ^(Q)God’s grace.

²⁵“And now behold, I know that all of you, among whom I went about ^(R)preaching the kingdom, will no longer see my face. ²⁶Therefore, I ^[e]testify to you this day that ^(S)I am ^[f]innocent of the blood of all people. ²⁷For I ^(T)did not shrink from declaring to you the whole ^(U)purpose of God. ²⁸Be on guard for yourselves and for all ^(V)the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you ^[g]overseers, to shepherd ^(W)the church of God which ^(X)He ^[h]purchased ^[i]with His own blood. ²⁹I know that after my departure ^(Y)savage wolves will come in among you, not sparing ^(Z)the flock; ³⁰and from among your own selves men will arise, speaking perverse things to draw away ^(AA)the disciples after them. ³¹Therefore, be on the alert, remembering that night and day for a period of ^(AB)three years I did not cease to admonish each one ^(AC)with tears. ³²And now I ^(AD)entrust you to God and to ^(AE)the word of His grace, which is able to ^(AF)build you up and to give you ^(AG)the inheritance among all those who are sanctified. ³³^(AH)I have coveted no one’s silver or gold or clothes. ³⁴You yourselves know that ^(AI)these hands served my own needs and the ^(AJ)men who were with me. ³⁵In everything I showed you that by working hard in this way you must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He Himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’”

³⁶When he had said these things, he ^(AK)knelt down and prayed with them all. ³⁷And ^[j]they all began to weep aloud and ^[k]^(AL)embraced Paul, and repeatedly kissed him, ³⁸^[l]grieving especially over ^(AM)the word which he had spoken, that they would not see his face again. And they were ^(AN)accompanying him to the ship.
